Goodwill store in Baltimore, MD sells clothing and housewares by the pound
Recession bringing in the bargain hunters
William Grant could be the unofficial spokesman of Goodwill. He sported a jacket, hat, shirt and shoes all found among the racks of Goodwill’s new superstore in Baltimore’s Alameda shopping center.
And there he was in that outfit, minutes after the store opened for the day, in search of more bargains. The store’s appeal — buying clothes and housewares for $1.69 a pound — keeps him coming back for more.
“In these economic times, these difficult economic times, you can’t beat the price,” he said. “People need prices like this.”
Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake’s 24 stores have never been busier. The stores are attracting people struggling to pay for food and still afford clothing, housewares and all the other things needed to keep a household humming.
