Bargain hunting trend fuels Goodwill’s expansion plans in Baltimore and Columbia

Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake plans to open four new retail stores and more than quadruple its local warehouse space in the next year, an expansion that could create nearly 50 new jobs.

Goodwill executives are scouting Southeast Baltimore for two new stores between 6,000 square feet and 10,000 square feet in size and looking in Columbia for a third.  Find out more about store openings in your area.

Meanwhile, the nonprofit has outgrown 10,000 square feet of warehouse space off Thomas Avenue in Linthicum and is searching for a 45,000-square-foot building to relocate near the Baltimore County/City border.

Doug Hiob, senior vice president of retail operations for Goodwill, said the organization is looking for a property close to interstates 695 and 95 because the space will serve as a hub for much of its local trucking operations.
